Trying to navigate a binder that is either too small or too large for the number of pages it is holding can be a frustrating experience and can make a bad impression when it comes to the professional work place.
Firstly, there are two different types of binder rings: O-rings and D-rings. It is important to know which ring type your binder will need to have, considering that D-rings hold more pages than O-rings even if they are the same size.
Paper can also vary in thickness, making it difficult to judge just how large your 3-ring binder must be to accommodate your content. Luckily, at least with standard paper sizes, there is a table for determining your correct binder needs by page capacity:
Ring Size (Diameter for O-Rings) |
Page Capacity | |
½-inch | 75 | |
1-inch | 175 | |
1.5-inches | 250 | |
2-inches | 350 | |
3-inches | 570 | |
4-inches | 800 | (D-Ring Only) |
