GE has recalled thousands of commercial air conditioners that could cause a fire hazard. The GE Zoneline Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner, common in hotels and office buildings, can accumulate moisture within the unit, where two shorted electrical components can cause a fire risk. The problem units were manufactured between January 2010 and December 2013.

If you have an affected unit, it’s important for you to directly contact the manufacturer before calling an HVAC repair technician.
Air conditioning recalls are not uncommon. Just last year, Trane recalled 100,000 residential units over concerns of a shock hazard. It’s important for homeowners and commercial business owners to register their HVAC equipment upon purchase to ensure that they’ll hear of any future recalls on their specific unit. And if you have any kind of commercial or residential HVAC equipment that seems to have a dangerous malfunction, contact a certified HVAC technician and the manufacturer as soon as possible – and don’t run the equipment again until it’s been checked.
