We all know leather as the mark of a car’s luxury, but is it really luxurious or just a hot sticky mess? The car interior is notorious for being hot and stick in the summer and freezing cold in the winter.
Will leather be a problem for you? Answer the following questions to find out:
- Do you have a garage? If you park your car in a garage that is cool in the summer and warm during the winter, then having leather is not as big of a concern when it comes to having a comfortable bum.
- Do you park your car outside for long periods? If you don’t have a garage or if your car sits in a shade-less parking lot for 8 hours a day, your leather could be uncomfortable. Of course, some car manufacturers have dealt with this problem by adding seat warmers and sometimes “ventilators” to regulate the temperature a car’s leather seats. But these features take time to work and often only pertain to the front seats, which leads us to the next question…
- Do you have backseat passengers? While younger kids may have the comfort of their car seats, teenagers may complain of hot or cold seats. Parents should ask themselves if they want to build their children’s character, or do they want to minimize whining…
- Does the car have tinted windows? Tinted windows can help screen the sun so that it doesn’t fry your bottom.
Leather does have its advantages; you just have to decide if the tradeoff of potential temperature variation in your new car is worth it. It’s definitely something to keep in mind when you’re test-driving for a new car!
