Every spring, it’s a good idea to make sure your air conditioner is ready for the hard work ahead.
Most of us know that it’s important to change our air filters out every few months, but we don’t often think to check anything else. Checking to make sure all the major parts are running correctly and efficiently can save you from having a system failure in the middle of the hottest months of the year.
Here are some tips on how to make sure your air conditioner is ready for summer:
- Change air filters and clean vents. While you probably know that air filters need to be changed regularly, you may not know that it’s also a good idea to replace them at the beginning of spring. Another important step is to clean the supply and return vents of dust and build up.
- Examine the outdoor unit. Checking your outdoor unit for debris that may have been blown into it is also important. Sometimes sticks or leaves can get caught in the fan and cause issues if they’re left there. Also check to make sure tree limbs and shrubbery are cut back around the unit.
- Test it out. Before it starts to get too hot, it’s a good idea to turn your A/C on to make sure there aren’t any strange noises, smells or obvious issues with the system.
- Schedule professional maintenance. Lastly, we recommend having a certified HVAC technician inspect your system. They know what specific red flags and potential problems to look for, which can save you from having bigger problems in the heat of the summer.
